AW: Mefos in November (english)
G'day Taacis,
welcome - always interesting to see who reads this forum. I heard sea trout fishing is not too bad in your region of the baltic sea either - so interesting that you are coming here to try :q:q
I am NOT the best person to give you advice, as i am fishing for sea trout only very infrequently these days as i am not Germany based anymore (and i have only caught 1 fish this year so far in my 3 outings) but I thought i make a start and then others can comment.
I think you will find November to be a good time. Already fishing is picking up again and some nice trout are being caught and i think it will only get better over the course of the next 2 months...
Only problem will be that a lot of fish are moving into the rivers to spawn and there might be a fair amount of fish around that are full of roe and would better be released. However, fish will likely be in markedly better condition than in January/February after spawning - when most fish are caught (in miserable condition)...
There is nothing wrong to fish near Kiel or on Fehmarn, but pretty much all areas along the coast will produce trout. I think you are best off to select one area to fish and focus on that, rather than trying to travel up and down the coast - given you only have little time. Also, I think 1000 anglers will have 2000 ideas about the best spots - so i would be opportunistic about it (what is close by and has good structure)...
Best to maximise your time fishing rather than travelling!:q:q
Also you MUST bring your waders, if you have a belly boat that could be a good idea as well. All beaches i know (limited to far north of Germany) you will have to wade unless you fish at night or when fish are really in close.
You can try both fly rod and lure. Both produce fish. I won't go into any detail about lures, flies, etc - as other people will have a much better idea about what is working than me (Just as a general idea usually 16-20gr would be most common lure weight, i'd say, and a slim lure that imitates little herring or smelt, etc. would be good idea). Anyway, i guess you might do some sea trout fishing in your area and your own lures will likely catch trout here as well - given pretty much all the lures you find in use on the German coast come from Scandinavia without any adaptation...
No matter where you go you would be well advised to go and talk to a local tackle shop to ask for details - you will find them anywhere, just google for tackle shop or "Angelgeraete" and your specific location... You will need to go there anyway - as I think you will need to purchase a visitor fishing permit even for the baltic sea (not sure exactly how that works, i think you just rock up and buy it at the tackle shop for few Euros)
Hope that helps somewhat & hope you'll enjoy your time fishing in good old Germany
Cheers
A
Dear kolegues
I am from Lithuania. I wish to try catch MeFo's on Germany coast. As I have busines trip to Germany from 10 till 14th November, I schedule to visit Northern Germany in 8-9th November and on 15th November.
I planning to fish near Kiel or on Fehmarn. It is good idea for November? What about Rugen coast? I need waders or bellyboat too?
Perhaps some fishermans would like to recommend area for coast fishing on Ostsee?
P.S.: my German "ist sehr schlecht" (this forum I was read with translator). If is possible answer on english, but in German answer is welcome too.
